The Chevy Bolt is back with the most range for under $30k (but not for long)
The Chevrolet Bolt has always been something of a people’s champion in the electric vehicle world. When it first arrived for the 2017 model year, it was among the only long-range, mass-produced EVs that didn’t require a luxury tax to park in your driveway. However, in late 2023, it seemed the story had ended when General Motors paused production to make room on the assembly line for the Silverado EV and Sierra EV.
But like a classic rock band embarking on a surprise reunion tour, the Bolt is back for 2027. While it retains the versatile, roomy hatchback shape that defined its predecessor, underneath is a modernized electrical architecture and a new battery system.
Perhaps best of all for buyers, Chevrolet is positioning the 2027 Bolt as the affordable American EV. With a starting MSRP of $28,995 (including destination), the Bolt aims to be the range leader for under $30,000.
For the first time in the nameplate's history, Chevy is introducing a sporty RS trim to sit alongside the value-oriented LT. While the LT serves as the entry point, the RS adds a bit of attitude to the Bolt’s practical roots.

The RS trim has a unique grille and badging, high-gloss black wheels, and black roof rails. Specific to the RS is a color combo pairing an Atomic Yellow exterior with black seats and red accent stitching. Both come standard with more than 20 safety and driver assistance features, including intersection collision mitigation and rear automatic braking.
Starting MSRP for the Bolt RS is $32,995.
Short window of opportunity
By keeping the entry price for the LT under $30,000 and addressing the charging speed, Chevy has made the 2027 Bolt an attractive option for the budget-conscious EV buyer. Vehicle-to-Home bidirectional capability is the cherry on top, which allows the Bolt to supply a properly equipped home during a power outage.
However, there is a catch. GM has confirmed that the 2027 Bolt will be a limited-run model assembled at the Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas. Production is only expected to last for a short window as GM shifts its focus to larger EV projects. If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to go electric, take a second look at the 2027 Chevy Bolt. It won't be around for long.
